Medicaid & Medicare Mental Health Counseling in NC, SC, VA, FL & VT: What’s Covered?

Accessing affordable mental health care shouldn’t be confusing. If you’re seeking therapy and have Medicaid or Medicare coverage, you may wonder what’s included and how to get started — especially if you’re looking for a neurodivergent-affirming therapist.

In this article, I’ll explain what mental health services are typically covered by Medicaid and Medicare in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Vermont, as well as what you can expect when working with me.

🌿 Where I’m Currently Credentialed

I am currently credentialed and in-network with Medicaid and Medicare in North Carolina.

I am actively working on credentialing in South Carolina and Virginia to expand access to care. In Florida and Vermont, I currently offer therapy on a private pay basis while I explore credentialing options.

✅ What Does Medicaid Cover?

Medicaid mental health coverage varies by state but generally includes:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Diagnostic assessments (such as ADHD and autism evaluations)
  • Crisis services
  • Medication management (provided by psychiatric professionals)

In North Carolina, Medicaid covers:

  • Therapy for anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, addiction, and more
  • Assessments for mental health diagnoses
  • Trauma-informed therapy
  • Behavioral health services for children and adults

Once I complete credentialing in SC and VA, similar services will be available for Medicaid recipients in those states.

Important: Medicaid may require pre-authorization for some services. I can help you navigate this process.

✅ What Does Medicare Cover?

Medicare typically covers:

  • Individual and group therapy sessions
  • Family counseling (if part of treatment)
  • Diagnostic assessments
  • Annual depression screenings
  • Substance use counseling

Medicare Part B usually covers 80% of therapy services after you meet your deductible. You may also qualify for additional assistance depending on your income and state programs.

Currently, I am in-network with Medicare in North Carolina and will update this page when credentialing is finalized in South Carolina and Virginia.

💡 Private Pay & Sliding Scale Options

If you live in Florida or Vermont (or are waiting on credentialing in SC or VA), you can still work with me through private pay. I offer sliding scale rates based on income to ensure therapy is as accessible as possible.
